Most people, he said, join a ‘school’ because they want to feel special. They want secrets. They want robes or Sanskrit words or incense.
But Gurdjieff hated that.
He said: real work doesn’t happen when you’re comfortable. It happens when you’re annoyed. When you’re questioned. When someone points out—right there, in front of everyone—that you’re faking.
That’s what a school should do.
Expose.
Break.
Rebuild.
But most ‘schools’? They’re happy hour.
Everyone nods. Everyone agrees. And after class—back to sleep.
So his point? If you’re not leaving pissed off… you’re not learning.
The walls only move when you hit ’em.

What's an Esoteric question that has you like this?

Anyone have a newer copy of this from Inner Traditions? want to verify something. Seems like the translator in the first volume forget the last Aphorism from "Leo", at least it's missing in my copy when compared to the Italian edition from 1971.
