Very Heavy Rainfall Forecasted in Northern #Ethiopia, Western #Eritrea, and Eastern #Sudan

IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Center (ICPAC) forecasted that heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over parts of northern Ethiopia, western Eritrea, and eastern Sudan over the next one week.

According to a press release, heavy to very heavy rainfall (top 10 to 5 percent on record) is expected in regions of Al Qadarif and Sennar in Sudan, Gash-Barka and Debu in Eritrea, and parts of Tigray, western Amhara, and southern Afar.

It added that total rainfall above 100mm is forecasted in these regions.
While, moderate rainfall between 50-100mm is expected over southern Sudan, western South Sudan, parts of central to north-eastern Uganda, few areas in western Kenya, and much of western and northern Ethiopia into western Eritrea.

Light rainfall less than 30mm is expected over parts of northern and southern Somalia, western Kenya, parts of western Rwanda, much of Uganda, eastern South Sudan, southern Sudan, and eastern Ethiopia.

On the other hand, dry conditions are expected in northern Sudan, eastern and northern Kenya, western and southern Tanzania.

ICPAC urged authorities and the public in these areas to take appropriate measures to protect lives and livelihoods.

Adanech Abebe, emphasized that the city administration will take irreversible actions against who what she described as “the enemies” of the people and the country who are working together to create man-made product shortages, unjustly increasing prices, and creating economic distortions to disrupt the stability of the people and to destroy the country.

She announced today that a task force comprising the federal government and the city administration has been established to oversee and monitor such sabotages.

The Deputy Mayor accordingly called on all the residents of Addis Abeba to work with the task force by pointing out and exposing the institutions and individuals who are participating in this illegal activity.

#Somalia, #Ethiopia to strengthen security cooperation
Somalia’s armed forces chief of staff met with his Ethiopian counterpart Monday to discuss security cooperation between the two East African neighbors.
A senior Somali military official familiar with the meeting told Anadolu Agency by phone that “Ethiopians are our neighbors and they are helping us in the fighting against al-Shabaab as their forces are in Somalia serving under the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia (AMISOM)."
On Friday, Somalia’s army chief was in Turkey to take part in a military and defense exhibition and held talks with his Turkish counterpart Gen. Yasar Guler.
They discussed ways to strengthen support from Turkey's military aid to the Somali national army, according to the military.
