The forest, he said, is composed of three categories of plants: softwood plants, eucalyptus plants, and indigenous plants making up a total of 167 species of which 4 are indigenous. The forest is also home to more than 180 species of birds out of which 4 are endemic to Ethiopia and 32 different species of mammals with 3 endemic ones. The first ever tree nursery was also established in Suba Forest years ago, while the first wood splitters were installed in the park in 1908.

The UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Ethiopia (RC/HC), Dr. Catherine Sozi, visited Somali Region on 23 July to firsthand witness the humanitarian situation, the UN said. During the visit the Ms Sozi discussed with the regional authorities including deputy president Mustafa Muhumed, and Heads of UN and NGO Sub/Field/Hub offices “where she demonstrated the commitment of the UN to strengthen partnerships and address the needs of those most vulnerable in the region.”

She also visited Qoloji IDP camp and discussed with IDPs and communities hosting them. “The regional president highlighted that 2.4 million people in the region depend on food aid. Malnutrition cases are increasing significantly.

“Ethiopian security forces in recent weeks have carried out rampant arbitrary arrests and enforced disappearances of Tigrayans in Addis Ababa,” said Laetitia Bader, Horn of Africa director at Human Rights Watch. “The government should immediately stop its ethnic profiling, which has cast unjustified suspicion on Tigrayans, produce information on everyone being held, and provide redress to victims.”

#Ethiopia: #Amhara Regional State Police College is graduating its 8th round Special Forces Police in #DebreMarkos city, in east #Gojam zone of Amhara state, the regional government media reported.
The graduation is being attended by senior regional and federal government and security officials including Gedu Andargachew, National Security Affairs Advisor to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who was the former president of Amhara state, and Minister of Foreign Affairs prior to his current role.
