Director General of the Authority, Adugna Debela, said international coffee prices have fallen from around $4 to approximately $2.80 over the past two months. He added that projections suggesting a further decline to about $2.50 are creating additional pressure on actors in the sector.

The armed group argued that Amnesty itself acknowledged in the report that it could not verify the identities of the alleged perpetrators at the time of publication, a point the OLA said..

Islamic militants abduct more than 300 people in northeastern #Nigeria, officials say

The attack happened in the town of Ngoshe in #Borno state, according to Bulama Sawa, an official from the #Gwoza area. He told The Associated Press the attack was likely in retaliation for an operation by the military that killed three commanders of the militant #Boko_Haram group.

Sissi says #Egypt in ‘state of near-emergency’ as #US-#Israel war with #Iran threatens economy
President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi says his country is in an economic “state of near-emergency” as a result of the Middle East war, warning of runaway inflation.
The Arab world’s most populous nation has not been physically impacted by the US and Israeli war with Iran, which has seen strikes on Egypt’s wealthy Gulf allies and paralysed trade through the vital Strait of Hormuz.
But by the close of business Thursday, the Egyptian pound had fallen to an eight-month low against the US dollar, trading at 50.2 to the USD amid reports of short-term investment outflows.
Egypt’s import-dependent economy has proven highly sensitive to fluctuations in the currency, which has lost two-thirds of its value since 2022.
At a military academy event, Sissi says “the current crisis might have some repercussions on prices.”

The #Nile dam standoff is heating up, and #Israel is caught between allies – analysis
#US President Donald Trump is widely admired in Israel for achieving what no other leader could: bringing home #Gaza hostages and imposing a ceasefire on what seemed to be an endless war.
Now it appears the self-appointed head of the new Board of Peace may be about to challenge the odds again, this time with a planned plunge into the waters of the Nile. In January, Trump formally notified #Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi that the US is renewing efforts to resolve the longstanding dispute between Egypt, joined by #Sudan, on the one hand, and #Ethiopia on the other, over the longest river in the world.
The most noteworthy aspect of the planned mediation is that the US is firmly on Egypt’s side, as it had been in past US mediation, which Ethiopia broke off in 2020. This means that to make a Trumpian “deal,” the president’s instinct may be to try to use .......

#Op_ed: Mirage of Pillar: Why #Djibouti’s ‘rentier’ reality cannot outrun Horn’s maritime pivot
In this rebuttal, Adam Daud Ahmed challenges the portrayal of Djibouti as an unshakeable “pillar of stability,” arguing that current conditions mask a regime prioritizing survival over meaningful reform.
Ahead of the 2026 elections, constitutional maneuvers have cleared the path for a “lifetime presidency,” making the state a high-risk dependency tied to a single leader. With no independent press and widespread censorship, “stability” has become little more than the absence of an audible alternative. High debt and reliance make Djibouti a “leveraged middleman” rather than a reliable partner.
The author concludes that its “Rentier Fortress” prioritizes regime longevity over institutional reform.
