Iranian state media say Khamenei’s daughter, son-in-law, and grandson were also killed.

On Saturday, a strike on a school in southern Iran has killed at least 108 people, and that at least 201 people have been killed across 24 provinces.

Iran’s retaliatory attacks have targeted Israel and US assets in multiple Middle East countries, including Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

#Update: #US, #Israel attack on #Iran: Mass protests erupt in #Tehran after confirmation of Supreme Leader’s killing

Thousands of Iranians poured into the streets of Tehran on Sunday in mass protests and mourning rallies following state media confirmation that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed during ongoing U.S. and Israeli attacks on the country.

Iran’s state broadcaster Press TV quoted the government as vowing that the “crime of assassinating the Leader of the Islamic Revolution will not go unpunished,” as crowds gathered in central Tehran chanting anti-U.S. and anti-Israel slogans and carrying portraits of the late leader.

Earlier Iranian authorities reported at least 201 people have been killed nationwide.

One of the deadliest was a strike on the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ school in Minab, southern Iran, which killed 108 students, according to the Iranian Red Crescent Society. Responsibility for the strike has not been independently confirmed.

#South_Sudan faces turmoil as former officials arrested in wave of detentions

A former South Sudan finance minister is the latest former government official arrested in a wave of detentions that analysts say shows cracks in the government of President Salva Kiir, who also faces an armed rebellion.

The latest arrest came Friday when Bak Barnaba Chol was taken into custody while attempting to cross the border into Uganda. His arrest followed that of another former minister of finance and planning, Marial Dongrin Ater, who was fired in August.

In the past week, a former central bank governor, a former undersecretary for the ministry of petroleum, and a general in the domestic intelligence agency previously posted to the same ministry have been detained.

The exact reasons for the arrests remain unclear.

Government spokesman Ateny Wek Ateny told local media outlet Eye Radio that the arrests were “not political”....

#Sudanese army evacuates hundreds as drone strikes intensify near #Ethiopian border

Sudanese army trucks evacuated hundreds of civilians from the strategic border town of #Kurmuk on Saturday, as an escalation in drone strikes by paramilitary and rebel forces opened a volatile new front in the country’s internal conflict.

The displaced residents arrived in #Ed_Damazin, the capital of the #Blue_Nile region in Sudan’s far southeast, following two days of intensified aerial bombardment.

Local officials reported that a combined force of the Rapid Support Forces (#RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (#SPLM-N), led by Joseph Touka, has been targeting residential neighbourhoods and infrastructure.

“The attacks forced citizens to flee toward Ed Damazin once again,” said Kurmuk Commissioner Abdel Ati al-Faki. He noted that approximately 80 families, totalling some 300 people, reached the capital on Saturday, joining nearly 1,900 others who have arrived...

#Israel and the United States launched fresh waves of intensive strikes across Iran on the second day of their military campaign, escalating a confrontation that has plunged the Middle East into a rapidly widening regional conflict with no clear timeline or outcome.

News: #Somaliland's #Israel deal could put #Berbera port at risk

#Somaliland says its recognition by Israel could be a boon for its Berbera port. But with missiles flying across the region, it could also be a target.

Berbera port on the Gulf of Aden has been transformed by the #UAE firm #DP_World over the past decade into a state-of-the-art facility on one of the world's busiest trade routes.

Berbera still handles far fewer containers than nearby #Djibouti or #Mombasa, but port traffic was up 30 percent from 2023 to 2025, and recent diplomatic moves could lead to much more.

A deal under negotiation with #Ethiopia, a landlocked neighbour with more than 130 million inhabitants, could see traffic rise by another 80 percent, said port authority director Ali Diriye Ahmed.

Ethiopia did not respond to queries on the subject.

But an alliance with Israel also brings risks, particularly as the US-Israeli attacks on Iran this weekend increase the threat of ........

News: President Taye links #Adwa triumph to advancing #Ethiopia’s access to the sea agenda

President Taye Atske Selassie has declared that Ethiopia’s pursuit of a reliable and sustainable access to the #sea is “a living truth inseparable from the sovereign trust bequeathed by the martyrs of Adwa,” highlighting the maritime question as a core focus of the 130th Anniversary of the Victory of Adwa celebrations.

In a speech delivered at this year’s celebration, held under the motto “From a Proud History to a Bright Horizon,” the President said historical records show that in the aftermath of the 1896 victory, one of Ethiopia’s primary diplomatic priorities was securing ownership of a maritime gate to connect with the world.

The bureau emphasized the role of Tigrayan forces in late 19th-century battles against Ottoman, Egyptian, Italian and Dervish expansionist campaigns, highlighting the leadership of Ras Alula Abanega in key confrontations at Gundet, Gura and Dogali prior to the decisive defeat of Italian forces at Adwa.

However, this year’s commemoration unfolded against a backdrop of heightened tensions between #Mekelle and #Addis_Abeba......

#US sanctions #Rwanda’s military and top officials over support for M23 rebels in Congo

The U.S. imposed sanctions Monday on the Rwandan Defence Forces and four of its senior officials for supporting the March 23 Movement, an armed group responsible for human rights abuses in the central African nation of #Congo.

The latest penalties come after a U.S.-mediated peace agreement was signed in December by Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi and Rwandan President Paul #Kagame in #Washington, alongside U.S. President Donald #Trump.

Trump at the time praised the leaders for their courage, as the deal also opened the region’s critical mineral reserves to the U.S. government and U.S. companies.

Despite the agreement, fighting between the two parties continues on several fronts in eastern Congo, claiming numerous civilian and military casualties.

#M23 is the most prominent of about 100 armed factions...
