Motion is the strongest bottom-up attention capture there is — vision science shows the eye is involuntarily drawn to movement, which means an autoplay video pulls fixation away from your headline and CTA. And usability research on autoplay-with-sound found it among the most hated patterns, triggering immediate dismissal and reactance, especially on mobile data.
