Hey everyone, itโs Anwar ๐
Iโm a developer and engineer. I created this channel in 2023 to document my journey and share things I find helpful along the way.
Procrastination delayed the start, but here we are. ๐
Iโll be documenting my tech and educational journey, along with a bit of my personal life from time to time.
Stay tuned, and feel free to share the channel with anyone who might find it useful.

Anwar is one of the brothers I met at 5killo. He has been serving the 5killo Muslim Jemaah as a lead in both academics and social participation. He is also a top-rated freelancer on Upwork. He was also the cook of this food. There will be many things to learn from him, his life, and of course, his cooking skills (both in coding and food ๐).
Let's get him 100 subscribers so he doesn't procrastinate again ๐

The job post vs. the number of applications
Mind you, if this were for other jobs, the applications would have passed 50+ in 30 minutes.
we are all vibe coders at the platform I guess ๐

Allah (SWT) doesn't need a specific means(sebeb) to bless you with good rizq.
Don't limit yourself to one path or opportunity. Do your part, stay flexible(it might be with tech stacks for example) and trust that Allah can open doors you never expected.
"ุฅูู ูุณูุฑ ูู ู ูุณุฑู ุงููู ูู"
It is easy for the one whom Allah makes it easy for.

What is the minimum salary you can accept and get hired in Ethiopia? Be realistic and reasonable.
If you already have a job, what is your salary? It would be good if you mention your years of experience alongside it.
It's totally anonymous. Share it here. I just wanted to check if my assumptions are valid.

A message from your Unc. to university freshers.
Congrats. Youโre about to experience some of the best years of your life. And yes, I said some of the best, because โthe bestโ is subjective. It depends on what you do with them.
Manage your time well.
Classes aren't usually back-to-back like high school. You might have a class until 10:30 AM and then your next one starts at 3:30 PM. If you spend that 5-hour gap talking, sleeping, eating, or just wandering around campus on your first day, who cares. Itโs five hours. Youโre not changing the world in five hours anyway.
But do that for an entire semester and suddenly you've spent roughly 300 hours doing... nothing.
300 hours is a lot. You could've learned a skill, built something, read a few books, worked on a project, made some money, or gotten really good at something.
You actually have more free time in university than you think. Use it to your advantage. Have something planned for the day and, most importantly, actually do it.
Make money.
Yes, you're a student. Yes, your family might be able to support you. That's great.
But university is also the perfect place to experiment with being independent. Try making your own money. Tutor someone. Sell something. Freelance. Build something. Sell a skill. Whatever works for you.
It doesn't have to be a lot.
The point is to learn how money works, how to deal with people, how to find opportunities, how to sell yourself, and how to survive without asking someone for every little thing.
You'll get used to the real world earlier, you'll build connections, and things will feel much less scary when you graduate.
And let's be honest, your family probably isn't going to sponsor every luxury shit you suddenly decide you need. ๐
So... make your own money.
Be a nerd.
Yes. I'm serious.
For the first few semesters, be a nerd. At least until you figure out what field you actually want to go into.
Study hard. Get those straight As if you can. Don't wait until your third or fourth year to suddenly decide that grades matter.
First, your early grades can have a big effect on your cumulative GPA. It's much easier to start strong than to spend your final years fighting to recover a bad GPA.
Second, you want the freedom to choose your field later. If you're competing for a limited spot in something you really want, you don't want your first-year grades to be the reason you can't get in.
And there's another benefit: if you build a strong academic foundation early, you can breathe a little later. You won't have to spend your entire university life desperately trying to recover from your first two years.
So yeah.
Be a nerd for a while.
You'll have plenty of time to become cool later. ๐
Build connections.
Nobody is going to spoon-feed you information.
You have to look for study materials, previous exams, opportunities, internships, competitions, scholarships, jobs, and whatever else you need.
And get close to senior students.
But don't make friends with someone just because you think they might be useful to you. Actually be their friend. Talk to them. Help them. Hang out with them.
When you're genuinely close, information comes naturally.
And when it comes to opportunities, don't expect everything to appear in your class Telegram group.
If an opportunity is already being posted in your class group, there's a good chance a bunch of people already heard about it before you did.
A lot of university opportunities go C2C โ connection to connection. :)
So build relationships. Be around people. Talk to people outside your department too.
You never know where something will come from.
Be nice, but have boundaries.
Don't just flow with the flock.
Think.
If everyone is doing something, that doesn't automatically make it a good idea. Ask yourself whether the direction you're going in actually makes sense for you.
And if saying no makes you look "uncool", let them call you uncool.
Being uncool for five minutes is much better than finding yourself in a situation you can't easily get yourself out of.
Especially when it comes to addictions, drugs, and other things people sometimes try in the name of "new experiences."
You don't need to try everything just because you're in university.
You don't need to prove anything to anyone.
Have fun. Make friends. Go out. Make stupid memories.
Just don't let a temporary decision become a permanent problem.
Unc. could keep talking for another 47 paragraphs, but this is enough wisdom for one day :)
Enjoy university. Make mistakes. Learn things. Meet good people. Build something. Make some money. Get good grades.
And most importantly, don't waste these years.
Have a nice stay, freshers.โค๏ธ

> Take a 20 million ETB loan from the bank.
> Rent a luxury car.
> Travel to multiple places in business class.
> Collaborate with social media influencers to build a social media presence. Ofc, you will pay these influencers millions from the loan so they can promote you well.
> Then, people will believe that you are a person who became rich from nowhere.
> Curate a "how to become rich from zero" course and sell it for 10,000 ETB each.
> It is fairly easy money for many people, so they will definitely buy it if you promote yourself well through those influencers.
> Out of the million people who now know you, suppose 10,000 people actually buy the course.
> You now have 100 million ETB in your bank account.
> Pay back the 20 million ETB loan.
> Thank you! You are a multi-millionaire now.
This is what my desperate, jobless brain is telling me to do. Should I go for it?

ScholarXiv Companion โ our project for the Stark Hackathon!
Weโre building an AI-powered research companion that uses the ScholarXiv API to help researchers turn rough ideas into clearer directions, challenge their thinking, discover relevant research, and find potential funding opportunities.
Weโve been building, experimenting, and iterating, and weโre excited to finally share it with you. ๐ค
If you like what weโre building, give the project a ๐ค on Stark since the view and like values 10%!
