Sad but this is how the world works…

We, Ethiopians, have a different calendar to the rest of the world. I get it that’s cool. But why do we have a different timing ? Like for example it’s now 2 oclock with the GMT + 3 timezone but when we tell it in time we say ከሌሊቱ 8 ሰዓት.. why ?? Why don’t we just say 2 oclock and complications that comes when you live/work in different timezone gets avoided. Every time there’s a program you have to confirm whether it’s the local time or international time. Is there a reason behind it ?

Part of the reason for this is because my algorithm was completely changed because of my location. Like on TikTok, I wasn’t getting even a single video from Ethiopia whether I follow them or not. I have to search for the followers I want to see just to see their content, and even after that the algorithm still sticks to the location. I’m sure I missed some trends and news because I’m a person of TikTok and Reels and that’s where I get my information.

Another thing I noticed is every social media platform like YouTube and TikTok comes with ads. Sometimes this is the benefit of living in a poor country, yes poor, because you’re ad free by default.

Coming back to the algorithm thing, I actually liked that it changed. I want to travel to a place where people have never lived before, like the North Pole, and just live. So I will deactivate and live peacefully but still with social media. Kind of a conflicting idea, but yeah that’s what I want.

btw, have u ever imagined how our payments would be even smoother if apple pay had worked out here? Like no passcode, no asking for account number, no cross checking the owner.. you just put your phone close to the machine and voila payment will be done. And we will be much more extravagant 🙂
