it has always been my dream to become an engineer since I was a child because of my dad, but I never thought I would sit down and write code. when I was in high school, my plan was to be an electrical engineer. I never touched arduino and stuff like that, but I loved physics and math back then—electromagnetism, electrostatics… it has always been interesting to me.
but after I joined campus, I realized that software engineering has more opportunities and is better paying compared to other jobs. also, I don’t think I am smart enough to handle hardcore engineering. but I chose electrical and computer engineering so I could somehow end up having knowledge from both domains while still getting a well-paying job from the software side. that’s how I became a software developer.
about the money, for my life on campus, I think the money I am making is fair enough. I don’t have an iphone 17 pro max or go to desert safari, but at least I am paying for whatever an average person would afford. so I would say for now I am getting enough. but for life after graduation, I doubt it. I need to find a way to make way more money.

me and arsenal are like a mother and child. we may quarrel, but that will never last long. I have said many times that I am done with arsenal, but I always get back to it. we bottled the league 3 consecutive times. I have seen the worst arsenal—the mustafi, koscielny arsenal. but what can I do? I didn’t start supporting arsenal for trophies. in fact, I have never seen arsenal win a big trophy like the EPL in my lifetime. I support arsenal because they played good football during the wenger era. saying all this to say that yes, I am back to arsenal, and we are gonna win our first cup of the year tomorrow.

I am married and father of 3.
I have got two serious things in my life; engineering and Arsenal. You think I can handle another third one ? I am single- single by choice tho😁 . May be after Arsenal win quadruples and after I graduated this year I will consider about adding it to my life.

If I understood the question correctly, it’s about whether AI will abandon the software industry.
YouTube did let everyone make and post a video, but it didn’t close the business of TV stations. iPhones made you take good pictures, but they didn’t let everyone become a photographer. AI is there to help you code, but it won’t make everyone a coder. A doctor using AI to diagnose patients and an ordinary person using AI to diagnose is not the same. The same thing applies to software developers.
What I would say is that the dynamics of jobs are changing. Instead of actual coding, training an AI to code is becoming more lucrative. So you can become an AI trainer and make tons of USD instead of becoming a developer. Therefore, I wouldn’t say the field will be totally abandoned; rather, it will change or evolve, just like how a 1950 banker has changed compared to today’s banker

I see where you’re coming from :)
I would call out prices by number, but it really varies across the industry. I think local companies pay in the range from 20 to 50k birr per month for a developer. I am just calling a rough number, but I am sure there are some that pay way higher or way lower. If you’re going to do the same job abroad, it would generally be above 500 USD. There are developers I know closely who make 2 and 3k USD a month. So the prices vary widely. I know you wanted to know how much I am making; I worked for a company with a 70$ monthly payment, and I also worked for 1k USD per month. I am out of a job right now, so I would do 70$ per month again :)
What I can say is just think big. Apply for opportunities abroad as much as possible instead of local ones.

Yes I think so.
I still have both of my kidneys. I’m in full health. I don’t look at prices when I order food, and I don’t check price tags when I buy clothes. I travel a lot.
P.s. I eat at ማዘር ቤቶች. I wear bonda clothes. I usually travel either to tuludimtu or Jemo.

Sorry guys, my plan was to finish all the questions yesterday, but I couldn’t. I lose my mood when Arsenal loses a game. Esty I will answer all of them later today.

A friend is looking for software developer.
Check out the requirements here.

Make sure to follow him for other jobs. He’s a CEO of a company so you never know when you would need him 😁.

Looking to work with a few strong engineers in Ethiopia.
If you’ve worked on real production systems and are open to guiding AI (vibe-coding + code review), this might be interesting.

I believe money can’t buy happiness and I don’t want to bring sadness to people’s life. That’s why.
