I thought everyone would relate to this simple life hack, but apparently not.

I turned off notifications on almost all my social media apps years ago. Telegram, TikTok, Instagram, you name it. I honestly don’t remember the last time my phone wasn’t on silent. It’s always been that way, and I genuinely prefer it.

It’s not because I’m trying to be edgy or detached. I just don’t like being interrupted. If I’m watching TikTok, I don’t want a Telegram notification popping up and pulling me out of it :) More than that, I like choosing when I respond instead of reacting the moment something comes in.

Notifications create this constant sense of urgency. Every buzz or banner feels like it needs immediate attention, even when it really doesn’t. When notifications are off, I check apps on purpose, on my own time. It feels calmer and more controlled. I’m not sure, but I honestly think this nonstop stimulation plays a role in attention issues too.

People may assume this means I’m not active. That’s not true at all. My screen time would tell you otherwise. I use social media a lot. The difference is I’m not being constantly pulled in different directions. I decide when and how I engage, and that makes a huge difference.

This obviously doesn’t apply to work apps. If you work remotely, quick responses matter. In that case, keeping notifications on makes sense.

But in general, I really recommend turning off unnecessary notifications, keeping your phone on silent, and seeing how it feels.

Posting this right after a meeting I literally fell asleep in. There were only three of us. Still managed to embarrass myself.

Honestly not having a job is elite. But if I must suffer, it should be 9 to 5 only 😌

I can see tough days coming.

I lost my Top rated badge on upwork because of a bad review a client gave me. He said he didn’t do it intentionally. All he remembers is giving positive feedback. Upwork doesn’t allow feedback to be edited once it is already given, so he can’t edit it either. Only Allah knows if he did it on purpose or by mistake. But anyways, I will have to live with it for the next 6 months. I hope I won’t get another bad client in that time span.

It’s disappointing but Hoping for the good days coming.

All what I am understanding now is that upwork can’t be something you live by. Even software engineering, I would say. You gotta have to start some sustainable and proven income source with it, so you can stay strong whenever such bad days come.

I have watched this before, and I had to rewatch it again recently after a conversation with my friend. I realized that I am a theory person and I like to study everything before making decisions. When you go through the normal education system, especially if you are a good student, your main focus is not missing a single question on an exam. You go over questions again and again so you do not get anything wrong.

That mindset grows with you, and when you enter the real world, you become risk avoidant. You start stressing about what you might miss and end up holding yourself back from trying. Unfortunately, business does not work like that. Most of the time, you are required to make decisions without a clear formula given to you. Of course, you make calculated decisions, but not like the calculations in physics that give you an exact answer. Sometimes, you have to make blind assumptions, and you may lose a lot.

This is probably where the saying “C students hire A students” comes from.

In this episode, the guy walks us through his journey in business, and you can really see how brave his decisions were.

Thank God I am becoming a C student. It is for a good reason that Allah wanted me to be a businessman 😅

People always say girls are bad at respecting appointments because they come late. But nobody talks about appointments with your home boys. Everyone says I am almost there while they are literally sleeping in their bed.

Personally, I am not bad at respecting time. If I am late, it is usually by a maximum of 30 minutes. I mean, I could be later, but that would be on purpose. With my home boys though, nobody ever comes close to the agreed time. Somehow I adapted to it. I even say I am almost there when I have not even started walking. But since the other party is always more late, it feels like no problem.

One thing remote work teaches you is discipline with time. If a meeting is at 3 and you join at 3:05, it is already considered missed or skipped. Of course it depends on the client, but if it is usually from the West, never expect delays. On time is considered late. With that mindset, you slowly adapt and start feeling that being late by 30 minutes is unbelievable.

All this rant to say one thing. Please do not be late.

Writing this because a friend said only 10 minutes and it has been almost an hour now.

I spent the day at a wedding, and almost 90% of the conversations with the people I was sitting with were about import export.
I was proud to say I also have the badge of an importer exporter, except mine is JavaScript packages.
