#GERD 🇪🇹
Actually, we are students, but at the same time, we are patriotic Ethiopian citizens. So, we can talk about our country.
For over a decade—14 years—we’ve been saying “Ende jemernew enchersewalen.” Some of us donated as little as 10 ETB in our childhood 🥰. In fact, all Ethiopian citizens participated. Now, we have completed it, and today, as we all know, the GERD has been inaugurated. This is not about politics; it’s about national pride, strength, and remarkable progress.
Everything is accomplished by generations. When it comes to the GERD, we must talk about and thank the leadership who made this victory possible.
Firstly, we would like to thank the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi for initiating the construction.
Secondly, and most importantly, we deeply thank the former chief engineer of the GERD, Engineer Simegnew Bekele. It would have been wonderful for every patriot if Engineer Simegnew Bekele were still alive to see the completion of the GERD, for which he sacrificed his life and lived in the Abay desert for a very long time. 😭💔
Engineer Simegnew Bekele, we commemorate you every time we talk about the GERD. We patriotic Ethiopians genuinely love you. You taught us the true meaning of patriotism. You are the real legend of the GERD. You will always live in our hearts. ❤️
Thirdly, we would like to thank former Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn for doing your best to ensure progress on the dam despite many challenges.
Lastly, we would like to thank the current Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, for your hard work. Completing such a dam is never easy—it is one of the most complex and massive mega projects. When you came to power, the country was facing many serious problems, and the GERD construction was almost halted. But you solved extremely difficult challenges, provided strong and intelligent leadership, and, with the help of Almighty God, finally completed it despite the hardships our country is still enduring today. Thank you, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. We love you! ❤
We also thank our Defense Forces who protected the dam from enemies by shedding their blood and sacrificing their lives. We also thank all the workers who labored in the desert, some even giving their lives. Thank you!
Thanks to all the Ethiopian people. And again, congratulations to all of us! 🇪🇹
May God bless Ethiopia! 🇪🇹🙏
May God help its leaders! 🇪🇹🙏
May God be with all of us! 🇪🇹🙏
May God guide Ethiopia in its future plans of progress and prosperity! 🇪🇹🙏
Most importantly, may God grant us peace and stability! 🇪🇹🙏
Thanks be to God! 🙏

#NewYear 🌟
Today is the last day of 2017. In just a few hours, we’ll step into 2018. ✨🙂
For some, this year has been wonderful 🤗. They achieved their goals, followed their plans, made progress, and generally enjoyed a good year. 👌💯
For others, it was difficult 😣. Life brought unexpected challenges, and many of their plans remained unfulfilled.😔 Things simply didn’t turn out as expected. 😞
And for some, the year was somewhere in between 😁—success in some areas, failure in others, a mix of good and bad. 😅
But above all, thanks be to God.🙏 We are still alive. Many who had great plans, intelligence, and potential are no longer with us—some through accidents, some in ways no one expected. Yet, by His grace, we are still here. 🙏
Staying alive is enough reason to thank God, whether we succeeded or not. We did not make it through by our strength or power, but by His grace and mercy that are new every morning. Thanks to God for keeping us until the end of this year, and we will embrace the new year not by our own might, but by His never-ending grace and mercy. 🤲🏽🧘🏻♂
Once again, thanks be to God! 🙏
May this New Year’s celebration be filled with joy, peace, and grace. 😇🙌🏽😌
Happy New Year to all our families! 🥳🌼🔥

By the way, what we know is that our entry date is October 1-2, which corresponds to Meskerem 21-22.
What we're trying to do here is confirm that date. The Ministry of Education (MoE) announced entry dates in early Meskerem, and almost all universities, including AAU and AASTU, are following that schedule. While the MoE announcement came after ASTU's information, we're still confused and uncertain about our entry date (in case there are any changes happening regarding the MoE announcement), as no official clarification or confirmation has been provided by our university. So, we're simply trying to verify the date. That's all!
To reiterate, all we know is that our entry date is October 1-2/Meskerem 21-22.
Follow us for more updates!
Thank you!

Subject: Request for Improved Transparency and Responsiveness
Dear Esteemed Administrators and Leaders,
First and foremost, we would like to extend our warm greetings and appreciation.
As you know, ASTU is one of the two science and technology universities in Ethiopia. Over the years, it has played a vital role in educating and graduating students in applied and engineering fields, thereby producing skilled science and technology professionals for our country. We are proud to be part of this remarkable institution and its forward-looking vision.
Among the 12 principles of ethical service that guide our university, “Transparency” and “Responsiveness” are particularly important. We strongly believe that upholding all these principles, especially in communication and information-sharing, is essential for ASTU to excel as a leading science and technology university.
Unfortunately, we students are facing challenges in accessing timely and reliable information. Despite the presence of the university’s official website and telegram channel, we often struggle to obtain accurate updates. Five specific issues illustrate this concern:
1. Academic Calendar
The academic calendar is not published on the official website, leaving students uncertain and dependent on unofficial sources such as random groups. This creates confusion and affects our ability to plan and manage our studies effectively. We respectfully request that the academic calendar for the upcoming year be made available through official channels as soon as possible.
2. Cutoff Points
For most schools and departments, cutoff points are not officially announced. As a result, students rely on speculation rather than accurate data. Publicly sharing cutoff points is essential not only for current students but also for incoming batches who need clarity when selecting their desired schools or departments. We have observed that other universities provide detailed information, allow re-checking, and enable students to make informed choices—practices that we believe would greatly benefit ASTU as well.
3. Class Schedules
Although class schedules are posted on notice boards, students often struggle to keep up with the latest updates. There are more efficient ways to share this information. If an official website or channel were dedicated to posting class schedules for all students, it would allow timely access, reduce confusion, and save unnecessary effort and time.
4. Updates and Clarifications
The Ministry of Education often announces changes such as entry dates or department restructuring. However, students at ASTU are frequently left uncertain about whether these changes will take effect at our university or how they will be applied. Clear and timely communication from the university would reduce confusion, build students’ confidence, and ensure smoother academic planning and decision-making.
5. Curriculum Updates
There are rumors that the university may revise its curriculum to align with international standards. Students are unsure if these changes will affect current or future courses. Providing official clarification would eliminate uncertainty, strengthen trust, and help students plan their studies more effectively.
Furthermore, when we seek clarification directly from offices, we often face unresponsiveness or, at times, are treated disrespectfully. This discourages us and leaves us without the answers we need. Such experiences undermine the principle of responsiveness and create unnecessary frustration.
We sincerely request that these issues be given due consideration. Ensuring transparency in information-sharing and responsiveness in student services will strengthen ASTU’s reputation, enhance student trust, and help the university achieve its vision.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. We remain proud of our university and hopeful that with your leadership, these concerns will be addressed promptly.
Respectfully,
ASTU Students
