🏗 Why System Design Matters + Best Free Resources

Many students focus only on DSA and coding… but System Design is what separates average developers from strong engineers.

Why is System Design important?
- It teaches you how real systems work at scale (not just writing code that runs on your laptop)
- It’s a must for interviews at top companies
- Helps you design better projects (instead of just CRUD apps)
- Makes you understand trade-offs (scalability, reliability, cost, performance)
- In 2026, even junior roles expect basic system thinking because of AI and complex applications

If you only know how to code, you’ll stay a coder.
If you understand System Design, you become an engineer.

Best Free System Design Resources (2026)

1. Must Start Here
System Design Primer (GitHub) – The classic free resource
👉 https://github.com/donnemartin/system-design-primer

2. Best YouTube Channels
- ByteByteGo -Clear & visual explanations
- Gaurav Sen- Deep understanding of concepts
- NeetCode -Good for interview-style problems

3. Extra Strong Resources
- karanpratapsingh/system-design (GitHub)
- ashishps1/awesome-system-design-resources (GitHub)

Recommended Path:
1. Read System Design Primer (basics)
2. Watch ByteByteGo + Gaurav Sen
3. Practice designing real systems (URL Shortener, Twitter, Chat App, YouTube…)
