โ€œRound Tableโ€ by @choeuram, is a work of art that touches on the concepts of kinetic art and technological experimentation, representing a group of 18 headless mechanical figures made of straw and balancing a black table on their backs. The disc, with a diameter of 4.5 metres, is in continuous motion, made to sway by the figures balancing the tilt through their own movements. The aim of the 18 figures is actually to carry towards themselves a sphere, โ€˜headโ€™ as the artist calls it, resting, free to roll, on the board, without ever reaching a destination.

On This Day 2000 (24.10.2000)

Linkin Park release their debut album, Hybrid Theory. Bolstered by the hit โ€œIn The Endโ€ and the Grammy Award-winning โ€œCrawling,โ€ it becomes the best-selling album of 2001.

Hybrid Theory takes its name from the bandโ€™s former moniker. It also represents the amalgamation of different styles that comprise their sound, which is evident on their third single, โ€œIn The End.โ€ The pop-friendly nu metal song opens with a somber piano riff that leads to Mike Shinodaโ€™s rapping on the verses and frontman Chester Benningtonโ€™s explosive vocals on the chorus. Lyrically, it taps into the hopelessness of a situation that seems impossible to change, with Bennington wailing, โ€œIn the end it doesnโ€™t even matter.โ€ But it doesnโ€™t end there.

Producer Don Gilmore, helmed Good Charlotteโ€™s debut that same year, didnโ€™t want the band to get mired in negativity and self-loathing and pushed them to write lyrics that were honest but entertaining.

Shinoda tells Vulture the band wanted to connect with fans through hardship but ultimately give them hope: โ€œThe songs were like, If you feel this way, come together. We always talked about a catharsis. They got to get out all these negative and difficult thoughts and emotions.โ€

For example, on their previous single, โ€œCrawling,โ€ Bennington sings lyrics about his issues with drug addiction and insecurity but does so from a place of personal responsibility.

โ€œCrawlingโ€ wins the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance and, along with โ€œIn The End,โ€ which peaks at *2 on the Hot 100, helps Hybrid Theory sell nearly 5 million copies in the US. Itโ€™s the best-selling album of 2001.
