🇮🇱 PM Submits Pardon Request to Herzog, Says It Would Allow Him to Concentrate on Affairs of State

Prime Minister Netanyahu has submitted an end-of-trial request to President Herzog.

In Israel - unlike in the United States - pardons are typically granted only after a conviction, not beforehand. This case is different. Netanyahu’s trial has exposed the depth of the political witch hunt pursued by elements within Israel’s judicial system. After years of appearing in court three times a week, the endless spending of public funds by a power-hungry and corrupt deep-state network, and the growing discord among the people, Netanyahu is now asking President Herzog to bring the trial to an end before any conviction or exoneration is reached.

This is not a pardon request, nor does the request include that word.

Netanyahu emphasizes in the clearest terms that this is not a pardon in exchange for retirement. On the contrary - its purpose is to allow him to continue fulfilling his role with even greater effectiveness.

Don’t hold your breath - President Herzog is planning a political comeback once his term is over, and the last thing he can allow himself is to let Netanyahu off the hook. We don’t have a president who is concerned about the future of Israel - we have a president who is concerned only about his own.

And if, after all this, he does grant Netanyahu a “pardon,” it will only be because the trial is ultimately exposing the deep state rather than Netanyahu.

Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry said on Sunday,

"We emphasize that the Caspian Pipeline Consortium plays an important role in supporting the stability of the global energy system."

It added:

"We view what has occurred as an action harming the bilateral relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Ukraine, and we expect the Ukrainian side to take effective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future."
