The Yemeni website “Defense Line” reported that the Houthis in Yemen are preparing to announce the deaths of several senior figures within the terrorist organization and to hold mass funerals for them. According to the site’s sources, these are senior officials who were eliminated by Israel and the United States over the past year, and whose fate the Houthis have kept under strict secrecy.
Recently, the Houthis announced the death of their “Chief of Staff,” Mohammed Abd al-Karim al-Ghamari, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike this past August. He has been replaced by Youssef al-Madani.
This week, reports from Yemen indicated that the group’s “Defense Minister,” Mohammed al-Atafi, has been hospitalized in critical condition after being severely injured during Operation Drop of Luck, and that his health continues to deteriorate. It should be noted that other senior officials whose fate remains unknown and who have not been seen in public for a long time include the “Interior Minister,” Abdul Karim al-Houthi—the brother of the group’s leader—and Deputy Prime Minister Jalal al-Ruwaishan.
Last night, reports from Yemen said that the Houthis’ “Ministry of Jihad Affairs” instructed that the bodies of senior Houthi officials who were killed be preserved and not buried until after the war ends. According to the sources, assessments indicate that the Houthis feel “exposed to advanced intelligence mechanisms,” and that the recent strikes “shook them deeply,” along with their security infrastructure and communications systems.
In response, the Houthis have tightened restrictions on the population and implemented a series of “precautionary measures” to prevent information leaks. For example, they have threatened to punish anyone who publishes photos from strike sites. At the same time, the Houthis have launched a wide arrest campaign in various regions under their control.
Additionally, the group has waged a violent campaign against international organizations, arresting UN employees, civilians, and social activists since the summer.
