The U.S. Department of Energy has announced it discovered a radioactive wasps' nest, with radiation levels more than ten times those laid out in federal regulations, at a facility in South Carolina.

Savannah River Site, where the nest was found, used to be involved in manufacturing nuclear weapons and is currently used to store nuclear waste. Newsweek contacted the Savannah River Mission Completion, which manages the facility, for comment on Thursday via email outside of regular office hours.
