🇺🇸 Gunman Opens Fire in New York Skyscraper, Kills 4, Including Police Officer, in Midtown Manhattan Shooting

The gunman burst through the lobby of the building in Midtown about 6:28 p.m., Ms. Tisch said. He shot Officer Islam first, then struck two people and a security guard in the lobby.

The gunman allowed a woman to go unharmed as she exited an elevator, before he rode it to the 33rd floor, where he killed one more person.

Officials said the gunman fatally shot himself after his attack, which set off a chaotic scene that rippled out into the heart of Manhattan during rush hour.

Mayor Eric Adams said preliminary investigations show the gunman may have intended to target the NFL offices but took the wrong elevator. Bullet holes littered the windows at the entrance to the building at East 51st Street and Park Avenue.
