A very strong magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit 62 km (38 mi) away from Tecoman, Colima, Mexico, in the early morning of Sunday, Jan 12, 2025 at 2.32 am local time (America/Mexico City GMT -6). The quake had a very shallow depth of 30 km (19 mi) and was felt over a large region. The shallow depth of the quake caused it to be felt more strongly near the epicenter than a deeper quake of similar magnitude would.

No significant damage or impact is expected from this quake and no particular alert was issued.

On Saturday night, the IDF announced that four soldiers were killed during fighting in northern Gaza.

According to an initial investigation, reported in Army Radio, the convoy in which the soldiers were traveling in Beit Hanoun was ambushed, with Hamas terrorists detonating an improvised explosive device, followed by gunfire from the terrorists.

48 soldiers have died in operations to clear Hamas from northern Gaza neighborhoods.
