WASHINGTON — The United States is sending a second aircraft carrier strike group to the eastern Mediterranean “to deter hostile actions against Israel or any efforts toward widening this war following Hamas’s attack,” Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said Saturday.

Israel said on Sunday it was restarting the supply of water to parts of the Gaza Strip after shutting it off following Hamas’s deadly terrorist infiltration on October 7.
Energy Minister Israel Katz confirmed the news in a statement, saying that water would begin to flow again to the southern portion of the narrow enclave — where Israel has urged residents to flee to in recent days.
Since Friday, Israel has been urging Gazans to move out of the Strip’s north. The military says it is trying to clear away civilians ahead of a major campaign against Hamas terrorists in the north, where they have extensive networks of tunnels and bunkers.
Hamas urged people to stay in their homes and, per the military, has been hindering movement south with roadblocks.

Herzog tells CNN that marauding Hamas terrorists who infiltrated Israel last week in an unprecedented onslaught were carrying manuals with instructions on how to torture and kidnap those they found.
“This was found on the body of one of the terrorists, this is a booklet... an instruction guide, how to go into civilian areas, into a kibbutz, a city, a moshav, how to break in,” Herzog says.
“This is the booklet, it says exactly how to torture them, how to abduct them, how to kidnap them,” he says holding up a copy.
During the onslaught on Israeli border communities, the terrorists killed some 1,300 people, most of them civilians, and took at least 155 hostages.
Herzog notes that many of the hostages are elderly or children.
“Who are these hostages? Babies, pregnant women, elderly people with dementia, even with caretakers, families, innocent civilians, from 36 nations — people were killed or abducted from 36 nations,” he says.

"We are in this together. Arabs have been shocked as much as Jews at the astonishing number of people killed, including small children, and of hostages taken.
