Support Ted Cruz's Proposed Resolution for Term Limits on Congress by Way of a 28th Amendment to the U.S Constitution

HISTORICAL CONTEXT: There have been 27 Amendments to the Constitution, beginning with the Bill of Rights, the first 10 amendments, ratified December 15, 1791.

Without a 28th Amendment it is not possible to implement Congressional Term Limits because of the Thornton decision of 1995.

Thornton, 514 U.S. 779 (1995), is a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision in which the Court ruled that states cannot impose qualifications for prospective members of the U.S. Congress stricter than those the Constitution specifies. The decision invalidated 23 states' Congressional term limit provisions.

An amendment may be proposed by a two-thirds vote of both Houses of Congress, or, if two-thirds of the States legislatures request one, by a convention called for that purpose of proposing amendments. The amendment must then be ratified by three-fourths of the State legislatures, or three-fourths of conventions called in each State for ratification.

UPDATES: On January 23, 2023 (as part of the 118th Congress), Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) proposed a 28th Amendment by way of S.J.Res.2. As of now, the resolution has 17 Cosponsors (all Republicans) and is in the first stage of the legislative process.

Earlier versions were introduced by Cruz, etc. in 2017 (S.J.Res. 2 (115th)), 2019 (S.J.Res. 1 (116th)), and 2021 (S.J.Res. 3 (117th)), all of which died in previous Congress.

The next step in the legislative process is for the bill to be referred to the appropriate committee by the Speaker of the House (Kevin McCarthy) or the presiding officer in the Senate (Vice President Kamala Harris). Most often, the actual referral decision is made by the House or Senate parliamentarian (the most experienced or skilled of the two).

If this resolution does make it to committee, then it will typically be considered by said committee next before it is possibly sent on to the House or Senate as a whole.

STEVE'S TAKE (CONCLUSION): The Thornton U.S. Supreme Court decision is a very suspect, unconstitutional, and tyrannical ruling favoring big government. It defecates on We The People's checks and balances oversight power of our elected officials. In other words, it takes power from us and puts it into the hands of the corrupt federal government with seemingly no exit strategy made available to us to stop it/them.

What are the chances of an Amendment like this ever being passed especially given the fact that we have all these power-hungry, corrupt politicians in Congress today? Do we honestly think they are going to let us put term limits on their power? If by some miracle they do pass it, does anyone believe that a corrupt, compromised, power-hungry, communist usurper like President In Name Only Joe Biden is going to sign this into law once it reaches his desk? If you believe that, then I have a bridge to sell you.

We'd be foolish to expect any movement from the traitor Harris but what's the hold up McCarthy?

Maybe it's equally as brainless to expect traction on this from him since he's a RINO.
