At night, the police received a report at the police hotline 100 about hearing the sounds of an explosion in the village of Sagur, near the Tomb of Shimon Cohen Gadol. The police located the scene of the incident and identified damage to the outer & inner walls of the Tomb of Shimon Cohen the Great. Northern District police investigators, together with the Shin Bet, opened a joint investigation to identify & locate the suspects. A preliminary investigation revealed that masked suspects arrived at the scene, placed an improvised explosive device near the outer wall, caused damage & fled the scene.
We view with great severity damage to institutions, religious sites & symbols. The Israel Police, together with the Israel Security Agency, will use the means to identify the suspects.
