U.S. Overdose Deaths hit RECORD HIGH in 2020 - driven by deadly fentanyl

The number of deaths attributable to drug overdoses hit a record 93,000 last year during the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns, representing a 29% increase from previous years.

Fentanyl was involved in more than 60% of the overdose deaths. Heroine was the other drug linked to the high mortality rate.

"The nation was already struggling with its worst overdose epidemic but clearly COVID has greatly exacerbated the crisis,” stated Brandon Marshall, a Brown University public health researcher.
