Singapore and Panama have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their maritime relations.

Under the MoU, the maritime authorities of Panama and Singapore will cooperate on maritime matters including the promotion of the use and acceptance of ship’s electronic certificates to facilitate port state inspections, the exercise of port state control (PSC) inspections by both countries, as well as personnel exchange.

The deal was signed by Quah Ley Hoon, Chief Executive of MPA Singapore, and Noriel Araúz, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Administrator of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP), during a high-level delegation visit to Panama.

“This cooperation will strengthen maritime relations between our two countries. It will also yield significant benefits through speedier port clearances for vessels registered with our two countries calling at our ports,” said Lam Pin Min, Senior Minister of State for Transport and Senior Minister of State for Health of the Republic of Singapore."

Danish general cargo ship DANICA VIOLET collided with ferry BERLIN at around 1430 UTC Nov 1 in according to track, Rostock Harbor. BERLIN was leaving Rostock bound for Gedser, Denmark, DANICA VIOLET was to dock at Rostock on arrival from Poland. Extent of damages unknown. According to not yet confirmed information, collision was caused by steering or engine failure of DANICA VIOLET.

☑️Euronav Signs LSFO Deal with Malaysian Port of Linggi
Belgian tanker operator Euronav has signed a service agreement under which Malaysia’s Linggi Port will become its low-sulphur marine fuel supply base. The port would also provide other services, including supplying crews and provisions, for the company’s ships sailing on the East of Suez routes, Reuters referred to a statement released by the port operator.

☑️EIB Provides USD 155 Mn for Port of Piraeus Expansion
The European Investment Bank (EIB) has formally agreed to provide EUR 140 million (USD 154.5 million) to support expansion and upgrade of the Port of Piraeus. The 20-year loan, signed in Athens, will support the implementation of part of investments at the principal port of Greece in a total investment plan of more than EUR 600 million (USD 662 million).
The funding was described as the largest ever loan for port investment in the country by Europe’s long-term lending institution.

☑️TORM will Equip Ten More Ships with Scrubbers
Danish tanker shipping company TORM would fit ten more vessels with scrubbers, bringing the total number of planned scrubber installations to 44. “The new installations support our balanced approach to the new sulfur regulation, according to which approximately half of TORM’s fleet will operate with scrubbers,” the company said.

Qatar has entered into an agreement with MSC Cruises for the charter of two cruise ships during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Berthed at Doha Port, the cruise liners will offer a combined capacity of 4,000 cabins and act as floating hotels during the tournament.

🔽Malaysia bans open-loop scrubbers
Malaysia has become the latest country to ban the use of open-loop scrubbers in the country’s waters due to concerns over sea pollution. The maritime authority Jabatan Laut Malaysia issued a notice to the shipping industry saying that it has prohibited the discharge of washwater from open-loop scrubbers while operating within 12 nautical miles of Malaysian land.

🔽Ocean Infinity brings in Solstad CSV on long-term charter
Houston-based subsea and data company Ocean Infinity has chartered in Solstad Offshore’s 2014-built CSV Normand Frontier. The vessel has now been mobilised, and will be on charter for a period of three years growing Ocean Infinity’s fleet to three. The company says the charter will allow it to serve clients on a global basis across each of the world’s major oceans.

Monaco-based ship owner and operator Navios Maritime Acquisition Corporation has inked an agreement to acquire five product tankers in liquidation of Navios Europe I.
The ships in question are MR1 tankers Perseus N, Star N, Hector N and LR1 tankers Aurora N and Lumen N.

3️⃣Vopak will Build & Operate New Terminal in Texas
Dutch tank storage company Royal Vopak has been selected by Gulf Coast Growth Ventures (GCGV), the petrochemical joint-venture between ExxonMobil and SABIC, to design, build, own and operate a new industrial terminal on the U.S. Gulf Coast.
The terminal will be dedicated to serving the planned 1.8 million tonnes per year ethane cracker.

Alpha Tankers, also known as Pantheon Tankers Management, was the highest bidder at online auction for Brightoil Petroleum’s 2013-built VLCC Brightoil Gem. The price was $57,35 m.
Earlier this year creditors arrested Brightoil’s entire fleet of VLCCs and aframaxes, and the Brightoil Gem was the last ship sold.

1️⃣Odfjell grows chemical tanker pool to 19 with addition of Navig8 quartet
Norway’s Odfjell and Navig8 Chemical Tankers (N8CTI) have reached an agreement that will see Navig8 add four stainless steel chemical tankers into Odfjell’s Chempool25.
The agreement sees the Odfjell pool grow to 19 vessels made up of ten Odfjell vessels, five vessels from Chemical Transportation Group and the four new additions from Navig8. Odfjell will operate all of the vessels in the pool.

2️⃣Unifeeder goes global with Feedertech acquisition
Unifeeder, the north European liner bought out by terminal operator DP World, has gone global, buying a 77% stake in Singapore’s Feedertech for an unspecified price.
Feedertech’s chairman, Ali Maghami, will retain a 23% stake in the 16-year-old company, which transports more than 600,000 teu a year with annual revenues of close to $200m.

China Shipbuilding Group, the new shipbuilding conglomerate merged by two largest Chinese state-run shipbuilders CSSC and CSIC, has had a remarkable debut show at Marintec China in Shanghai announcing RMB30bn worth ($4.2bn) of new contracts
The new contracts are made up of a slew of newbuilding contracts and financing contracts.

The Finnish shipyard Meyer Turku handed over the COSTA SMERALDA cruise ship to the customer.

The customer of the liner is Costa Cruises, a member of Carnival Corporation. A feature of the vessel is the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel. COSTA SMERALDA is the second cruise ship in the world, after the AIDAnova liner, using LNG as fuel in ports and on lines.
