During the COVID-19 pandemic, the government of Peru authorized widespread use of ivermectin which resulted in a 74% reduction in excess deaths in ten states according to a recent peer-reviewed study. When analyzing data across 25 states in Peru, researchers found that these reductions in excess deaths correlated closely to ivermectin use during four months in 2020.

Researchers noted that ivermectin distribution may have yielded such positive numbers because the drug can BOTH prevent AND treat COVID-19 when distributed to an at-risk population on a greater scale.
