The Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (Exchange Programs - U.S. Department of State) made the difficult decision not to bring FLEX participants on program this coming fall.
β €
We know, for the hundreds of young students who worked so hard to earn this scholarship, that this is difficult news. The program is considering alternate forms of programming, such as a semester program starting in January, and will communicate with finalists as those develop.
β €
Despite this, the FLEX family remains strong and united, and will meet this challenge as all others – together.
On July 7, 2020 FLEX Alumni office hosted its second Book presentation within the framework of the FLEX Alumni Book Challenge Round 2. Speakers, who successfully finished reading their book of choice, highlighted the lessons they have learned from the book and shared the key takeaways with the participants of the presentations.
Abdurahmon Dadaboyev, FLEX alumnus ’07 and Charos Rustamova, a young neurology student, shared their thoughts on the books they have read during the quarantine. Abdurahmon read β€œRide of a lifetime” by Robert Iger and shared his view on the key factors the book focuses on. Charos had the chance to read β€œEmotional Intelligence” by Daniel Goleman, which she found out to be one of its kind in terms of explaining the meaning of EQ.
FLEX alumni and USG alumni were keen on asking different questions and exchanging ideas on themes the books focused on, such as emotional intelligence, how the brain works, and tying these notions with learning and leading in one’s lifetime. πŸ’™
