C5+O.N.E. Students Explore Innovation and Business in Uzbekistan

As part of the C5+O.N.E. Program, participants across Central Asia take part in field visits to leading businesses to explore practical solutions, witness innovation in action, and strengthen their English skills.

In Uzbekistan, more than 30 students of Cohort 4 visited three leading businesses.

📍In Tashkent, students explored Air Products, a U.S. company and global leader in liquefied natural gas technology and cryogenic freezing solutions, learning how advanced industrial gas innovations promote efficiency.
📍In Fergana, students visited Najot Ta’lim, discovering how digital education and practical training equip youth with in-demand skills and drive the country’s digital growth.
📍In Nukus, students explored Robbit, where interactive STEM and robotics education fosters creativity and prepares the next generation of engineers and innovators.

🌍 Through the Faculty Enrichment Program (FEP) three university instructors from Uzbekistan — Maksudjon Usmonov, Sardorbek Murodov, and Abdushukur Uriboev — have spent the past two months at Arizona State University (ASU), expanding their professional expertise and building new academic connections.

Together with their faculty mentors, they have observed selected classes, participated in hands-on lab sessions, met with the researchers at the Melikian Center: Russian, Eurasian & East European Studies, and launched embedded systems research projects.

Beyond academics, the fellows also explored Arizona’s rich culture — from an open-mic night at the Tempe Art Center to an Uzbek cultural event on campus and a scenic trip to Sedona organized by the Melikian Center.

These experiences highlight the power of U.S.–Uzbekistan educational exchange in advancing innovation, mutual understanding, and lasting academic partnerships.

🌍 Strengthening U.S.–Uzbekistan Cooperation through the Open World Program

From October 7–18, an Open World delegation of Members of Parliament from Uzbekistan visited the United States to exchange ideas on governance, policymaking, and civic engagement.

Their program began in Washington, D.C., where delegates met with Senator Steve Daines, Congressman Bill Huizenga, and Congressman Don Bacon, as well as experts at the Atlantic Council and the Caspian Policy Center. Discussions focused on expanding U.S.–Uzbekistan cooperation, fostering economic growth, and supporting regional stability.

The delegation then traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska, where they explored how state and local governments collaborate with the private sector and civil society to drive innovation and community well-being. Visits to Black Hills Energy, Lincoln Electric System, and the Mayor’s Office provided valuable insights into renewable energy, sustainability, and public-private partnerships. Delegates also learned about civil society engagement at Nebraska Appleseed and bipartisan governance through meetings with Nebraska State Senators.

Among key takeaways, Ms. Sapargul Utemuratova noted the strong emphasis on employee well-being and environmental sustainability, and plans to adapt similar practices in Uzbekistan. Mr. Bobur Bekmuradov proposed exploring a sister-city partnership between Kokand and Lincoln, promoting continued cultural and municipal exchange.

🌍 As part of the Faculty Enrichment Program (FEP) three university instructors from Uzbekistan — Kudrat Ibragimov, Zebo Kuldasheva, and Sardor Surmanov — are spending a semester at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington.

Their time at Gonzaga has been both inspiring and transformative. Immersed in the university’s collaborative environment, they are engaging in research, attending workshops, giving presentations, and exchanging ideas across the fields of Education, Business Administration, and Arts and Sciences. Each new experience is helping them discover innovative teaching methods and approaches to bring back to their home institutions in Uzbekistan.

🤝 Beyond their academic work, the fellows have embraced life on campus and in the Spokane community, forming lasting friendships and cultural connections that extend far beyond the classroom.

These experiences capture the spirit of the Faculty Enrichment Program, which supports the professional growth of higher education faculty by fostering international academic exchange and collaboration.
