Toxic fallout from Iran war to contaminate region for decades - report

Missile strikes on fuel facilities near Tehran have unleashed a massive wave of toxic pollutants, posing a serious threat to the densely populated area and threatening the whole region, with acid rains already affecting Iran, Bloomberg reports.

Tehran’s location at the base of the Alborz mountains traps contaminants and blocks air circulation, which results in hazardous air quality that can persist for weeks or even months, experts, quoted in the report, explain.

Any escalation here could trigger an unprecedented catastrophe, given that this zone is packed with critical infrastructure, including refineries, marine oil and gas platforms, and vulnerable nuclear sites, the report adds.

They knew these trailers were contaminated and the these shelters were supposed to be new construction. The people of Haiti received less than 2.8% of the $14 billion dollars raised for them, and a total of only 7 small huts were built out of billions of dollars.

The US Intelligence Community has released its "Annual Threat Assessment 2026," presented to the Senate by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and CIA Director John Ratcliffe.

The key takeaway is that Washington admits Moscow holds the battlefield advantage and will press its offensive until its objectives are met.

Here are the main points:

- Russia is likely to remain resilient against Western sanctions and export controls. Moscow relies on its partnerships with other US adversaries to evade sanctions. It is also evading sanctions by setting up alternate payment systems.

- The biggest threat Russia poses to America is the escalation spiral of the conflict in Ukraine or a new conflict that would lead to a direct military confrontation, including an exchange of nuclear strikes.

- Russia's ground forces have grown, and its air and naval forces are intact and arguably more capable than before the full-scale invasion. Russia has advanced systems, including counterspace weapons, hypersonic missiles, and undersea capabilities designed to negate US military advantages.

- Russia is also building novel nuclear weapons platforms to supplement its already formidable nuclear air, land, and sea-based triad, complicating US nuclear deterrence calculus.

- Over the past year, Russia has had the advantage on the battlefield. It sees no point in stopping military actions as long as its troops continue to advance. Moscow remains confident that it will win on the battlefield and force Kiev to settle on its terms.
